Jim Jones Signs New Deal With...

SONY! Yeah, we know... we were scratching our heads too! At least now we can finally put all those "Jimmy's going to G-Unit" rumors to bed. According to Hot 97's Miss Info, Jim Jones, formerly signed to Koch Records, has just secured a sweet deal with Sony. Here's what an overly excited Jimmy had to say:

“I just left the lawyer’s office. I signed a multimillion dollar joint venture with Sony. My boss is Rick Rubin and Hip Hop (Kyambo Joshua) is doing my albums with me. What you think Jay-Z is gonna think about that?”

Whoa. What exactly was that supposed to mean? Well, let's try and connect the dots. Jay-Z is now the president of Def Jam, the company that was started back in '84 by Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons. Rubin also produced Jay's hit song "99 Problems" in 2003. Rick is now overseeing operations for Columbia Records (owned by Sony) and according to Miss Info, Jay is supposedly "consulting" for him over there. Hmmm... interesting. In any case, I seriously doubt Jay is losing any sleep over the recent comment. I mean, why the hell WOULD he care? Jimmy what? Jimmy who? Just cut the check.

Anyway, here's what else Jones had to say:

“What’s crazy is that they gave me the same deal that Un and them fucked up back in the day when they got the Sony/Untertainment deal… I got that joint venture, that 50/50 split, they don’t give those out anymore. That’s a Dame Dash, Ruff Ryders deal. And I’m bout to go crazy with it. I’m gonna be a problem.”

Good for you, Jimmy. Reportedly, the new Sony deal will also give him the power to work with his own artists over there. I think THAT might be a problem, lol. Jim's new album is due out early 2008. We'll keep you posted on the details...
